Our first glider was an example that we were given to make based on the instructions given, it flew okay, it was awful but it definitely could’ve been better. For our first glider from scratch we wanted to make a one that looked like a plane, we took a couple pieces of foam and cut them so they were even, glued them together then sanded them down to make the fuselage. We cut our wings and stabilizers so that the wings were straight and we sanded them down so that they had good airfoils. Once we finished the basic layout of the glider we tested it and figured out what we needed to do to make it fly. We added weight until the center of gravity was as close to the wings as we could get it. This glider didn’t fly very well, but I plan on tweaking it more so that it will eventually glide well.
Since our first glider didn’t fly as well as we wanted, we noticed that for a lot of people it worked better when the fuselage was smaller and made of sticks instead of foam, so for our second glider we used sticks and glued them on top of eachother to make the fuselage a little thicker. We made the wings and the stabilizers swept back, once they were all cut, we sanded them down so they had a good airfoil. Then we cut a section off the top of the fuselage so the wings and stabilizers would be even with the entire gilder, glued the wings and stabilizers on the fuselage and trial and error the flight until it flew in the way we wanted it.
