Week 1:
Write about why you didn't have an internship and what you did to procure one. For the first week I had an internship set up, but the school I was going to volunteer at needed me to fill out an application that had to get processed through the school. So the first week I had to wait for the paperwork to go through. |
Week 2:
What is the biggest challenge you face at your Co-Op? The first day I spent the entire day cutting papers so the teacher could prepare for next years incoming kindergartners. So the second day we had a sub and the kids were a little crazier, the biggest challenge I have is getting the kids to do what their supposed to do, because they don't always want to. How do you see your role developing at your Co-Op? I think the closer I get to the kids and the more time I spend with them, the more they'll listen to me. I want the kids to be able to count on me and to come to me if they need help with any work. |
Week 3:
What are you thankful for in your Co-Op experience? I'm really thankful that I was given the opportunity from my family friend. I'm also thankful for the class and the teacher because they've been very welcoming and friendly towards me. Who benefits from the work that you do at Co-Op? How and/or why? I think that the kids and the teachers benefit. The first day the teacher gave me papers with a song about the colors so they could learn them. I found out that they were for next years incoming kindergartners. I've already finished about 5 colors and I should finish by the end of their school year. I think this helps the teacher because she doesn't need to worry about prepping this stuff for next year. And this helps the kids because I've helped a lot of them with math and some other subjects when they struggle. |
Who is your mentor? Describe his or her life, education, career path and more.
My mentor's Minhtam Huynh (pronounced Mrs. Winn). She grew up in San Diego and went to San Diego State getting her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and then amaster’s degree in education from National University. In the classroom she is really patient and calm with all her students. |
Describe what you are most thankful for in your Co-Op experience—what experiences, what people, and so on? What new appreciations have you gained through this experience?
I am incredibly thankful for my mentor, she was really nice and made me feel welcome from the moment I walked into her classroom. I was really comfortable asking questions and talking to her. That doesn't usually happen for me. I'm really grateful to the kids because they accepted me, I expected them to be more wary of me and ask me why I was there more than they did. But I connected with a couple of them a lot and they got attached to me like I did to them. I'm also grateful for the parents that I met because I had a lot of really good conversations from the very first day and it was fun to get to know them and their kids a lot more through those conversations. |
